Book Review of Jordan: A Whole New WorldReality TV Star Katie Price's Second AutobiographyKatie Price, formerly known as glamour model "Jordan," opens up about her relationship with her now-estranged husband Peter Andre in her second autobiography.
Jordan: A Whole New World, published by Century on Jan. 26, 2006, (ISBN No. 1846050367) begins with the start of Price’s relationship with singer Andre, which gathered steam once they finished their stints on the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! in 2004, and wraps up with their marriage on Sept. 10, 2005. (On May 11, 2009, the couple issued a statement saying they were to separate). Katie Price and Peter Andre's RelationshipPrice and Andre fell hard and fast for each other. It’s obvious in Jordan: A Whole New World that their attraction to one another was very much physical, but Price indicates their relationship was much more than that. The two moved in together, into Price’s house, fairly quickly, and by the end of 2004, Price was pregnant with their son, Junior, who was born June 13, 2005. The prospect of giving birth again (Price has a son, Harvey, now 6, from a previous relationship) scared Price, as she reveals in Jordan: A Whole New World. Junior was born via C-section, and afterwards Price struggled to bond with him. She recounts how she didn’t want anyone around after his birth, but had a houseful of guests, trying to convince herself they all wanted to get to know the baby. Harvey is the focus of one chapter of Jordan: A Whole New World. The youngster suffers from various disabilities, making him a challenge to care of, and which Price goes into in detail. This gives readers an appreciation for the patience Price must possess in order to raise Harvey, and a glimpse into how much she does love him. Peter Andre's Ex-GirlfriendsWhat Price doesn’t love, however, is Andre’s ex-girlfriends. He’s been involved with a quite a few women by his own admission, as Price writes in Jordan: A Whole New World, and reveals her feelings of anger, jealousy and insecurity upon hearing about them, seeing them, having to interact with them, and discovering text messages from them on Andre’s mobile phone. Price’s issues with Andre’s exes, while seemingly extreme at times, reveal a woman who isn’t perfect and has insecurities, quite contrary to the sexy and confident image of Jordan she portrays in her modelling work. Her “human” side is also reflected in some of the personal photos accompanying Jordan: A Whole New World, which depict her without loads of makeup and relaxing with her loved ones. Katie Price and Peter Andre's WeddingFans of Price know her wedding to Andre was an extravagant affair. From her crystal-encrusted pink gown, to a horse-drawn carriage, to singers and a trapeze artist as entertainment, Price’s big day, and the run-up to it, finish up Jordan: A Whole New World. Readers will learn she disliked the wedding photographer, and of how staff from OK! magazine accompanied the couple on the first few days of their honeymoon to the Maldives. Jordan: A Whole New World provides readers with juicy details of Price’s first weeks with Andre, contrary to the lack of detail in her other two autobiographies, Being Jordan: My Autobiography, and Jordan: Pushed to the Limit. The book is a fast and easy read, but the editing is slopping in some parts, which is garishly apparently. It’s “bathe Harvey,” not “bath Harvey.” All in all, Jordan: A Whole New World, can be described as a modern-day fairy tale of sorts — girl meets boy, they have a baby, and marry in a Disney and fairy-tale inspired wedding. There are a few bumps along the — Price’s insecurity with Andre’s exes, her worry about his parents accepting her — but the story ends happily ever after-ish.
